Automated Content Access Protocol (ACAP)

Until now search engines have not been able to distinguish between different access rules for the content that they encounter. Automated Content Access Protocol (ACAP) provides a technical framework that will allow publishers, authors and rights managers such as RROs worldwide to express access and use policies in a language in which it can be recognised and interpreted by search engines (such as Google) so that a search engine operator (and ultimately any other user) is enabled systematically to comply with such a policy or licence. The main aim is to create capability of compliance rather than trying to enforce it.

IFRRO and several of its members have enabled ACAP on their web-sites.
