European Parliament rejected ACTA

On 4 July 2012, the European Parliament’s Plenary voted to reject the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA). The Parliament voted by 478 to 39 to reject ACTA, which means that it cannot come into force within the EU. 

The EU and most of its Member States signed ACTA in January 2012. However, in the EU, both the European Parliament and every EU Member State had to ratify the treaty in order to come into force. 
 
ACTA could still become reality outside the EU, under the condition that six of the eight non-EU countries that have signed it proceed with its ratification.
