IFRRO welcomes a new member from Croatia as well as the establishment of an RRO in the United Arab Emirates

At its most recent Board meeting in March 2022, IFRRO welcomed the Croatian Association for the Protection of Journalists' Copyright (DZNAP) in the category of Provisional RRO Member. Accredited by the Croatian government, DZNAP is a specialist newspaper collective management organisation. They distribute collected fees from press clipping agencies on a 50/50 basis to authors and publishers. DZNAP brings the number of IFRRO members to 154.

Also in early March, the Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) was launched. A first in the region, the RRO, will protect and safeguard the rights of content creators, authors and publishers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The president of IPA, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, said at the event that “the establishment of ERRA emphasizes the role of the United Arab Emirates in protecting the creative rights of authors and publishers”. ERRA’s strategy will include supervising the use of works in schools, universities, copy centers and public libraries, said Director Majd Al Shehhi. A short video with supporting messages from Caroline Morgan, IFRRO CEO and Sylvie Forbin, WIPO Deputy Director General, is available here.

IFRRO is pleased to welcome DZNAP and to see ERRA established, illustrating the importance of collective management and copyright for the creative industries.
