23, avenue de France The IPA is a non-profit, non-political, non-governmental organization representing the interests of publishers worldwide in international and other fora. The IPA upholds and defends the right of publishers to publish and distribute the works of the mind in complete freedom, provided that in so doing they respect all legal rights attached to these works within their own countries and internationally. It is the duty of the IPA to oppose steadfastly any attempt or threat to restrict that freedom. The IPA promotes and protects by all lawful means the principles of copyright on which depend the encouragement of authorship, publishing and dissemination of creative works and we defend copyright against all infringements which may restrict the rights of authors and publishers. The IPA promotes literacy, accessibility, diversity and inclusion. And the IPA promotes and represents publishing globally as an essential cultural sector and a significant creative industry. 1896 Executive Committee drawn from 92 members (from 76 countries). In 2020-2022 IPA worked on its two policy pillars of copyright and freedom to publish - responding to many consultations on the former and awarding the Prix Voltaire in 2019 to Khaled Lotfy (Egypt), in 2020 to Liberal Publishing House (Vietnam), in 2021 to Dar al Jadeed (Lebanon) and in 2022 to Same Sky Publishing (Thailand). In 2023 IPA maintains a strong engagement at WIPO, as a board member of the Accessible Books Consortium, developing publishing industry statistics, on the board of the WIPO for Creators initiative and more. IPA has also worked with the UN to launch the Sustainable Development Goals Book Club and the Sustainable Development Goals Publishers Compact. IPA’s Educational Publishers Forum continues its impactful work and the IPA’s Inclusive Publishing and Literacy Committee covers accessibility, literacy, diversity and inclusion and sustainable development. IPA's new Data and Statistics Committee aims to facilitate the gathering and publication of global publishing statistics.
